The movie Hercules is a Disney movie made in 1997, to summarize quickly Hercules (voiced by Tate Donovan), a son of gods, was snatched as a baby by Hades and his goons (voice by James Woods) and forced to live among mortals as a half-man, half-god. Now a teenager, Hercules needs to perform a rite of passage on Earth to prove himself worthy of living with the gods on Mount Olympus. With his plucky satyr sidekick, Philoctetes (voiced by Danny DeVito), along for the ride. Hercules must learn how to use his strength to defeat a series of evil creatures. This movie does an interesting job changing the flow of toga movies, especially when knowing the interesting timing of the introduction of the film. Toga films were on the decline since the lack of new material and fresh perspectives, however when Disney took the project of Hercules, instead of a live action gritty drama fashioned film or a violent bloody war film, a cartoon fast paced modern animation that was something we as an audience as never seen before.

The separation of this website into the two main segments of modern aspects, and the animation or production of the film is to highlight the main reasons why Hercules sticks out in the toga film world. The reason why Hercules sticks out or brought back the genera to begin with is because the usual toga film followed the standard historical based story, usually only branching out to create new characters or scenarios but always based on or in a relevant major situation I.E birth or death of Christ, or important figures like emperors. However Hercules takes a new or modern approach and creates its own timeline and follows a free flowing more fun method of story telling.
